3D Printer

Our technology has become so advanced that almost everything is possible even from home. Nowadays in the middle of the pandemic many of us are working from home and for those who love creating, you may want to try a 3D printer. This machine will allow you to create a 3D model of almost anything as long as you have the file ready. The printer however can only make the object based on the type of material they can work with.

Not all people will benefit from this machine but for those with the hobby or need something to create a model for something, they can work very conveniently. For hobbyists most of us are printing ornamental objects or figures of characters but for professionals they may want to use the machine to build another tool or product so the possibilities of the technology is more than just a way to print your favorite character’s toys and in costume making application.

If you are here then we assume that the 3D printer technology will play a role in your activity as well whether it is for a hobby or in a professional setup. What’s a bit complicated is probably deciding which machine to go for because there are an abundant amount of them out there and all can produce the three dimensional models but, probably in different manner and give a different experience. Just like everything else, it is always best to shop based on which fits you the most.

For typical home application however, the most common machine type is FDM of Fused Deposition Modeling and as you can guess from the name, this type of machine is creating your product by melting a thermoplastic material. This material is coming in a form of string plastic rolled and installed on the machine’s holder. The material is then heated by the hot end and ejected through the nozzle into the building plate. The molten plastic will harden when it cools down and the nozzle will layer it with another material until the whole unit is finished.

Another typical home 3D printing machine we use at home is SLA or stereolithography which as opposed to using a solid material which is then heated, it is now using liquid material, or photosensitive material like resin that can be cured or hardened using the UV light. The machine will have a vat filled with the liquid and a build plate which is installed upside down. It is printed or cured layer by layer so as the material is cured, the build plate will move upward.

About FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3

Both machines have their own pros and cons so there is no one specific unit that is perfect for all users. When it comes to the options, you can choose freely for the one that will work best in your application and nowadays they are getting cheaper as well in order to reach further. But, depending on the price range as well, chances are the more expensive they get, the bigger the model we can print or the more convenient the machine is, in general.

You can shop based on the print volume or capacity, price range, or even brand, whichever sounds more convenient to you. But, if you have less time to spare, we do recommend getting them from your trusted brands as it saves the effort to dig in every manufacturer’s collection. Among those many companies that design and create the machine, FLSUN and Creality are two of the most popular choices you may want to check out. These are pretty well-known names in the market and it is for good reasons because most users seem to be satisfied with their products.

They also carry various 3D printers in the catalog to match with your taste and preference. For those who are planning to build small to medium models, we recommend to consider FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3. These machines are capable of printing quite large models for the price they are offered in and just like any FDM 3D printers out there, they are also equally easy to use. But, being different machines from different manufacturers make the two also different.

The prominent factor that set FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3 apart in our opinion is their mechanism because usually FDM printers are coming in either XY or H-bot design while for the QQ S, this is a Delta type which has a completely different construction than the two. But, in terms of performance it seems that these machines are working really well to give a good printing result without much fuss. Read also: Tronxy X5SA Vs X5S here.

FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3 Design

Being different in mechanism made there is a prominent difference in look from the two. As you can see, since Delta uses three arms to support the extruder which can only move up and down, the post needs to be tall and this is why this machine is going to be taller than your Ender 3; probably about two times taller. These machines are going to come pre-assembled so you need to spare some time to put every part together.

We wished Ender 3 would only require us to attach the pillars which can be assembled by the company but no, this machine also puts everything apart and we have to attach them one by one. For equally inexperienced users, the assembling of Ender is faster and probably what most people are familiar with already. Space wise the Ender will consume more of your table but QQ S is very tall so we can’t put them on a shelf.

FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3 Mechanism

As it has been mentioned above, the prominent difference between FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3 is their mechanism and let’s talk about it here. The pros of Delta style in our opinion is the weight factor that is much less here. In this system the only weight on the carriage will be the hot end itself so there will be no weight from direct extruder. All movement is handled by these three arms thus, the bed plate itself stays in its position, allowing for a faster print.

FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3 Capacity

Moving further, let’s talk about the printer’s capabilities first and as you may already know, they are pretty decent for a printer in $200 and $300 range. These machines are capable of printing at 255mm by 360mm while the latter is 220 by 220 by 250mm. They have the typical glass bed and the standard bed respectively but, for adhesion the glass surface turns out pretty good. On the other hand the Ender 3 also has a great sticking ability but you may need a scraper to pull the model.

FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3 Features

We also want to mention the features in FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3 because despite being a cost effective machine the two also offer some convenience. The latter has this resume function which allows you to resume the printing process when there is power outage or any unexpected error. On the other hand the QQ S has WiFi functionality paired with their own app. But, this is not an advantage in our opinion because it doesn’t work.

There have been complaints from their users about the Wi-Fi which can’t be connected directly to your local network and only working with the app that is also not functioning as it should so rather than real advantage we think this is just for marketing purposes. But, we do love the auto levelling feature here as it works just as convenient as it sounds.

FLSUN QQ S and Ender 3 Performance

The last part we want to talk about is their performance and in this part the printing test with both of them are turning out pretty good but not yet at the level you would like to use, chances are we need to test once and fix or tweak the machine first before achieving a satisfying result. The two are actually working really well but since Ender 3 is made to meet the budget, you may want to replace some of its components to make it more reliable.

FLSUN QQ S Vs Ender 3

These machines are pretty much similar in terms of build volume but the Delta styled QQ S is capable of printing larger models. This printer is using three arms instead of the typical XY style and the difference in movement may affect the print speed as well. The prominent difference is QQ S has auto levelling which is very convenient while the Ender 3 has resume printing function.

Conclusion

Overall the two are good machines for beginners but assembling a Delta style machine may be more complicated. If you are fine with the assembling process however, we do highly recommend the FLSUN QQ S as it can print fast, reliable, but also has convenient features.
