3D Printer

Our technology has advanced a lot from when the first ever working computer was invented to now we are carrying a compact computer everywhere we go as they are more capable and made in a lot smaller form factor. There are also lots of new technologies you can try today depending on what you want to achieve and one of the most interesting machines you may want to bring home is a 3D printer. This once niche hobby is now gaining so much popularity because many are getting interested in the convenience.

Of course 3D printers are not the machine that everyone can reap benefits from as they are pretty distinct in function but, they are useful in various applications especially in modeling or prototyping so not just for hobby, they are great for engineering and other professional purposes such as jewelry and toy makers. The Printer is actually very much similar to your regular paper printer but instead of using paper as the medium, now we are using a building plate in which the printed object can be removed from.

But, unlike the paper printer, 3D printers are not using the regular ink and usually, you will see them utilizing a roll of plastic solid string or called filament mostly made from PLA. This type of machine is called an FDM printer and as you can expect, the mechanism will heat the hot end and dispense a liquid plastic through the nozzle following the pattern of your design layer by layer. If said this way then the mechanism is very similar to a regular paper printer.

What’s different is since the goal is to make a 3D model, unlike paper printers which laid flat and in a very thin layer on top of the paper, your FDM will continuously put layer on top of layer to finally make the whole object. Because we are dealing with heated material which hardens as it cools down, there can be many parts or issues regarding the result and this can be affected by tons of factors from the machine, software, and even material being used.

Besides FDM, there is another 3D printer type that we often choose as an alternative for home printing called SLA or resin printing. Unlike the solid filament roll, your SLA machines uses liquid resin which is sensitive to light and the liquid form is hardened using UV light, also layer by layer so it gives an impression that your model will comes out of a vat, hanging upside down as the build plate is installed at the top and as each layer is cured, it moves slowly upward.

About Creality CR 10S and Ender 3 Pro

Both machines are amazing and it is all about personal preference whether you prefer the FDM or SLA machines since each of them carry their own pros and cons. Personally we do think the FDM is much better to start with if you are new into the hobby since it is easier to work with due to the solid filament and there are less to mind about as well with this printing method. If you are here then we assume the FDM option is best for the application.

FDM printers are abundantly available out there from different brands and usually one company has more than a pair of machines to choose from. It is great so then we can choose freely and match the machine to what we want and even budget range yet, it can be very much confusing as well. For those with no favorite manufacturers yet, Creality is one of the best options you may want to consider as their products are amazing and they are also ideal for beginners.

But, they do have many in the catalog to consider based on what you want from the printer and for those who want to not only get a reliable machine but also convenient and pocket friendly, Creality CR 10S and Ender 3 Pro will be two attractive options you may want to have. These options are very popular among enthusiasts and it is not without reason because the printers themselves are very reliable and will give you a good printing result.

Both CR and Ender lines from this brand are two best options for FDM printers and many have used them as well especially when they are marketed towards beginners. However, they are not perfect too and there is only so much we can expect from machines in this price range. But, we still think Creality CR 10S and Ender 3 Pro are ideal to be your first printer as long as you also want to adjust the expectation.

Creality CR 10S and Ender 3 Pro Design

Just like most FDM printers in this price range, both of them are coming with no housing and only all the important frame to build a working printer with two pillars supporting a moving print head that will navigate on both Z and X axis. The top is also supported with a thick steel frame to hold the two pillars together. Design wise we are not a big fan of either Creality CR 10S or Ender 3 Pro because they still put the power housing apart of the main printer itself.

As you can see, the CR10S has a different housing for the printer power and we need to put it right beside the main unit while in Ender the power housing is installed on the side of the printer’s pilar so none of them are aesthetically pleasing or look neat if you prefer such a setup. But, for the monitor they are still using the same display and the same mechanism of rotating control then the pressure button. Read also: Ender 5 Plus Vs ANYCUBIC Chiron here.

Creality CR 10S and Ender 3 Pro Build Volume

There are so many factors you may want to consider when getting a new 3D printer and the first thing you will notice is that not all machines will have the same capacity or build volume so make sure to think about what you want to print with the machine first. Creality CR 10S and Ender 3 Pro are also quite different here because the former is a medium size machine that can print an object up to 300mm wide, 300mm long, and 400mm tall compared to its little brother at 220mm by 220mm by 250mm.

In addition, their building plate is also different because as you can see, the Ender 3 Pro is already using a magnetic plate instead of glass plate which means it will be easier to pull and put back in or to remove the object from but, it is not suitable for higher printing temperature while on the other hand glass surface give a smooth base but heavier and require more effort when removing the object.

Creality CR 10S and Ender 3 Pro Z Axis

The next important part we want to mention is their Z axis and this is because the CR 10S is using dual Z rods for this movement. We are always a fan of dual Z rod systems because it improves the print head movement and since now it will stop right at the same spot on both sides, we are not concerned about how they will align perfectly anymore. The Ender 3 Pro unfortunately still uses one Z rod for this movement and while it is not bad, it may create issues later.

Creality CR 10S and Ender 3 Pro Performance

The last part we want to talk about is their user experience and the first part we want to mention is they have this wide knob to fine tune the bed leveling and this is amazing since now you can easily get the best result in no time compared with the small wing-nuts. As for the printing result both of them are also very comparable to each other and at least from what our eyes can see they are giving good printed models.

They are not perfect however especially for the Ender 3 Pro since this machine has a pretty serious stringing issue and for some reason there are many who experienced fail printing with this model. Many also feel the need to upgrade this machine with a Capricorn tube to improve its reliability.

Creality CR 10S Vs Ender 3 Pro

There are so many good options for 3D printers out there and both Creality CR 10S and Ender 3 Pro are good choices to consider. What’s prominently different from these machines is that the CR 10S series have two Z axis rods to improve the stability and in comparison, it can relieve your mind from updating them later. Performance wise, the CR10S is also more reliable in terms of performance since the machine can work great right out of the box.

- FILAMENT MONITOR: The CR-10S comes with a convenient monitor that will detect when the printer has run out of filament, automatically pausing the print, and will alert the user to restock the filament before continuing. Say goodbye to wasted filament and time
- RESUME PRINT: The new upgraded control board enables the capacity to resumes printing after changing filament, power outage, or any other unexpected stoppage.
- HEADACHE-FREE ASSEMBLY: The CR-10S is shipped partially assembled in 3 parts, it is easy to complete the assembly process. Takes approximately 20 minutes to assemble.
- DUAL Z AXIS: Dual lead screw Z axis design, gives much more stability and accuracy than single lead screw models sold by the competition.
- FAST HEATING & RESUME PRINT: The heated bed can reach its operating temperature in just five minutes. The printer is shielded by its power supply from voltage spikes and power outages. If electrical power is lost, prints can be resumed from the last layer, saving time and reducing waste.
- PRINTING STABILITY: Improvements to the Y axis improve stability, and the alteration of the control box unit move the fan to the bottom of the unit, Make every printing works perfectly
- REMOVE EASILY:Our all new magnetic bed surface for easy model removal is included stock on the Ender 3 Pro. Easily remove the magnetic print surface from the hotbed and remove models with no spatula or razor necessary.
- BRAND POWER SUPPLY:The brand power supply delivers more power with a stable output ensuring the temperature fluctuations are minimized, especially during long and intensive prints. Heat the hotbed faster and to higher temperatures before making the Ender 3 Pro a much better option for printing ABS and other high temperature high strength filaments.

Conclusion

All in all you can go with any of them and in comparison, they are very ideal for a beginner or enthusiast but, we do think the CR10S that works well without much fuss will be the better option yet, this machine is also quite more expensive to give larger build volume.
